Day 329
That strange object pictured above is (well - was) a hanger. A life-saving hanger.
Guess which moron locked herself out of her car as she was filling its tank up with gas this afternoon? 8D I honestly don’t know how I manage to get myself into ridiculous situations like these…
But yes, I locked myself out and as I banged my head against the window a couple of times, my keys, phone, and laptop were all staying put on the passenger’s seat. The only “essential” thing I had on hand was my wallet, but I figured that my debit card wasn’t going to be of any help this time around.
I decided to take the walk of shame to the store, told the cashier what happened, and asked her if she had any suggestions when one of the employees told me that he’d be able to get the door open with a screwdriver and a metal hanger. Unfortunately, the cashier looked around and didn’t find any of those things in the shop, so we had to see if we could figure out how to open it another way. The employee, Larry, was so sweet… Normally, people who work at gas stations are really sketchy and creepy characters, but he was genuinely nice and kind-hearted and even went as far as asking each customer that stopped by the station if they had what we needed.
That was another thing that surprised me… EVERYONE we asked was willing to help me out and tried to see if they had things we could use to open the door up. One lady even offered to let us use her car’s antennae in place of the hanger! I keep hearing horror stories about people who find themselves in my situation and are not able to find a single kind soul to assist them, and here I had everyone at this gas station offering to lend a hand! There was this guy at the pump behind me named Colton who apparently went to my school… He told me about how he got locked out of his car at a restaurant and had to resort to calling and waiting for roadside assistance because no one wanted to help him out. Colton was also incredibly helpful and was looking up our school’s police department’s number as Larry and I were searching for a hanger.
Another guy showed up to help out and with some of his tools, he and Larry were able to open up the door a bit. However, they still lacked something to reach inside and pop open the lock. Colton eventually told me that his apartment was really close by and offered to drive over there and grab some hangers for us. I was already overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness, but for him to offer to do that was just amazing!
So we finally had everything we needed and let me tell you, watching them mess with the car was pretty painful. I’m not even going to go into detail about what they were doing exactly because I don’t think I’d be able to describe it without sounding like an idiot. I will tell you that they fashioned the hanger into a sort of hook and used it to reach and grab hold of the lock. I’ll leave the rest to your imaginations. They had so many failed attempts and I swear, they were more frustrated than I was. Hahaha. It was just so strange to see how adamant they were to open that cursed door… It was as if it was their car… But they FINALLY got it open after what seemed like forever.
And as if I didn’t embarrassed myself enough already, I squealed. And bounced. And impulse-hugged them.
After I thanked all of them profusely, Larry came up to me and asked if I could help him out by giving him some money for bus fare. Normally, I’m really wary about giving people money but I just felt so compelled to help him out (I mean, the poor guy DID spend over an hour trying to open up my car.) He needed 8 bucks but I only had a 20 dollar bill on me, so I decided to give that to him. He didn’t want to take it because he thought it was too much and also felt bad for sort of ruining the paint on my door, but I insisted. You guys should have seen how sincerely grateful he looked. He literally looked like he was going to cry. He asked me to remind him what my name was and said, “Patricia, you are beautiful inside just as you are on the outside.” And, I don’t know… I just knew that he was responsible and would make the most out of the money I gave him.
Now, they did screw up the paint and rubber around the window a bit, but they told me that Autozone has some touch-up stuff that can easily fix that… I’m just crossing my fingers and hoping that it’s not too expensive. But gosh, when I was half-way home I literally said “DID THAT SERIOUSLY JUST HAPPEN?” out loud.
Thank GOD for those sweet guys. It’s so crazy how things work out sometimes! My faith in humanity was definitely restored today.
(I’m keeping Colton’s hanger and taking it out with me every time I gas up.)

I know I sound sadistic for saying this, but I love reading about your misadventures. They sound like short stories with sometimes happy endings.Like the one above ^

One of the reasons why I choose to look through your tumblr if I find myself tumblr-less for a few days. Always a cute...
